Hi, my name is Lex

I am a musician and software engineer

🏳️‍🌈 About Me

My name is Lex and my pronouns are they/them/theirs.

I am non-binary, queer, and a proud member of the Out In Tech community!

I am a software engineer, audio engineer, and composer with 6+ years of experience working in Higher Education and 10+ years of customer service experience. I love to implement experimental sound design principles in a technical environment to expand the horizons of what is possible in the audio world.

Some of my performances have included the use of Wii remotes, a Makey Makey, video game controllers, and house lamps - just to name a few - to generate MIDI data and create interesting visual complements to the sonic experience.

My goal is to combine creativity and logic in order to design new and exciting tools for the enjoyment of humanity.

    Sound Design

    Delazed Effect Example

An example of the digital audio effect I developed called Delazed. The only audio effect used in this entire clip is the Delazed delay I wrote. Over the course of about two minutes, each parameter is showcased. The listening notes can be found in the Read Me of the Delazed project repository.

    Sound Design Ableton

    Annihilated

I designed this soundscape using multiple high pass and low pass filters in Ableton Live's Wavetable instrument to create movement and suspense. One note is playing the entire time, and all effects are acheived solely through adjusting multiple filter cutoffs with LFOs and automation.

    Experimental Ableton

    Sun Rises West

The chords and melody are all derived from a Native American flute recording. The flute samples are layered and pitched to create a rich texture. I manipulated samples of a deck of cards, a door knob, crunching leaves, and a kalimba to add more percussive interest, rhythm, and sonic contrast.

    Indie Pop Ableton

    Sunbeam

This is an excerpt from one of six songs I wrote and recorded from 2020-2021 for an EP that I'm currently mixing and mastering. I played bass, guitar, and synth live. For the drums, I used my own recorded samples mapped to a Drum Rack in Ableton Live.

    Synth Pop Ableton

    Blame the Moon

This is an excerpt from one of six songs I wrote and recorded from 2020-2021 for an EP that I'm currently mixing and mastering. I played bass, guitar, and synth live. For the drums, I used my own recorded samples mapped to a Drum Rack in Ableton Live.

    Sound Design Kyma

    Call of the Void

This excerpt showcases my sound design skills in Kyma, an advanced real time audio and sound design application. The primary sound sample used is a recording of me tapping a drinking glass. The fluttering sounds as well as the pitched bell sounds are all derived from this sample.
